Announcing the release day for SAY YES TO THE MARQUESS

I’m thrilled to announce that Say Yes to the Marquess is available today! This second installment of my Castles Ever After series features a sexy bad-boy prizefighter hero, Rafe, and Clio–a young lady who’s been forced to be very, very good for far too long.¬† ūüôā You can read the first chapter on the website. And if you need more enticement, great reviews have been coming in….

  • “A sparkling, emotionally lush romance.” ~Starred Review, Kirkus Reviews
  • “This flawlessly written Regency historical is guaranteed to hit the sweet spot for most romance readers.” ~Starred Review, Booklist
  • “Dare excels at storytelling, creating a powerful, believable romance that evokes a plethora of emotions.” ~Publishers Weekly

Thanks to an infamous scene in a roomful of cakes, Rafe and Clio’s romance might be–quite literally–my sweetest romance yet. But it’s pretty steamy, too. I hope you enjoy it!

Elections for the Board of Directors of Romance Writers of America opened this week, and I am on the ballot as a candidate for Director-at-Large.

Why am I running?

RWA is going to be facing some big decisions and issues in the next year or two–and the choices made will affect every member. As a someone who values RWA, I would like to see that process be as transparent as possible, and inclusive of all the different voices in our organization.

So most importantly – please vote! Whether you vote for me or not. The ballot is full of excellent candidates.

If you are looking for suggestions, I will tell you I am voting for Courtney Milan and Carolyn Jewel. They are brilliant, talented authors who would bring a wealth of publishing experience and subject expertise to the board. Both have experience  in traditional and self-publishing.  Courtney has an impressive (understatement!) legal background, and Carolyn knows a great deal about technology and user testing.

I am neither a lawyer nor an IT whiz — aside from being an author, my professional background is as a librarian. That means my particular interest is in providing free and fair access to books and information. Board directors are elected to serve the organization, not advance individual agendas, but if I have a philosophy that tends to color my decision making, it’s that one.

Most of all, I just believe in and appreciate RWA. Over the years, membership has meant a lot … Read More »

A free read from Tessa Dare

I’m happy to announce that I’ve re-released my very first novella as a free e-book!

As I write this, How to Catch a Wild Viscount is available free from Amazon (US, UK, Canada), BN, Kobo, iBooks, and GooglePlay. If it’s not free at your favorite retailer, you can also download a free PDF here at my website.¬† There will also be a Createspace paperback available to order through Amazon very soon, for anyone who would prefer print.

Order links, excerpt, info, and PDF are at this link. If you missed this story before, I hope you enjoy it!

This novella was originally published in 2009 as The Legend of the Werestag. Yes, that title was weird. No, the story is not a paranormal romance. ūüôā

It’s been a busy summer so far for the Dare family!¬† I recently returned from a wonderful time at the American Library Association conference in Las Vegas, and soon I’ll be headed to two events in Texas.

July 20-22 – “For the Love of Books: Readers Love Romance!” at Lake Austin Spa

I am beyond excited for this. What could be better than a gathering of readers and writers, at a world-class spa retreat?¬† Lake Austin Spa is gorgeous in the photos, and I can’t wait to experience it myself. I’ll be there with amazing bestselling authors Lori Wilde and Kerrelyn Sparks, and anyone else who would love to join us for a few days of pampering, writing, and talking romance. There will be romance trivia, a writing workshop, wine and cheese… I think I’m even leading (or straggling on) a hiking excursion!¬† If you have a few days to spare, please consider joining us!

Romance Writers of America annual conference, July 22-27 in San Antonio, TX

The RWA annual conference is always a highlight of my year.¬† If you’re anywhere near San Antonio, please mark your calendar for the annual “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing on Wednesday, July 23rd, from 5:30-7:30 at the Marriott Rivercenter hotel. This wonderful event with 500 authors is open to the public – all books are donated by the publishers, and proceeds go to support local literacy causes.

For those attending the conference, I’ll be moderating a panel on Thursday at 4:30:

I had a wonderful time at the RT Booklovers’ Convention in New Orleans! I’m so grateful to all the authors, readers, publishers, volunteers, and RT Magazine staffers who worked so hard to make it a memorable, fun experience.

For me, the highlights of every RT Convention are the signings: both the Avon open house and the big Book Fair on Saturday.  Both events were crowded this year, but I so appreciate all the readers who waited (in some cases, hours!) to see the authors and came by my table to say hello.  I signed new books, I signed old books, I signed books in French! And tote bags and Kindle covers and scrapbooks and bookplates. And most importantly, I had the chance to meet readers, shake their hands, and share hugs and laughs and even a few tears.

For the most part, writing is done in solitude, and these few days spent meeting readers are precious in ways I struggle to describe. Every time I leave a conference like RT, I feel recharged as a writer and reminded of all the ways Romance is so important. Romance authors and readers are amazing people, and it’s an honor to be a part of this genre.

Thank you, RT!… Read More »
