Casting Call

I’ve seen a lot of people discussing/posting whether they used celebrities as models for their characters, so I thought I’d share my visions of Jeremy and Lucy in Goddess of the Hunt – a youngish Clive Owen and a brunette Reese Witherspoon.
I’m curious to hear if those of you who’ve read some or all of GOTH will say, huh?? They don’t look like that!! Actually, they look rather different in
my mind now, too – but it was useful to start from something visual.
But now – I need models for my new hero and heroine, and since I never watch movies or TV anymore, I’m coming up blank. Give me suggestions, please!
Hero – After spending six months with a bottled-up, brooding guy (whom I love, but…), I’m happy to report that the hero of Goddess of Beauty is a cheerful, talkative rogue. Think Rhett Butler. I need a guy who’s ruggedly handsome, but not pretty. Brown hair, tanned, rough-cut and muscular, but with boyish charm and a killer smile. Oozing self-confidence and swagger.
Heroine – She’s fair, blonde, blue-eyed. A delicate, almost doll-like beauty – but with inner fire. Graceful bearing. On the outside, she’s the picture of a perfect society belle, but inside she’s longing to break all the rules. She’s an artist and appreciates beauty, and she enjoys being beautiful – but she needs someone to see beyond the pretty face.
Any and all ideas welcome!!

Reese Witherspoon as a blonde, LOL? There is a great article in April’s Bazaar featuring her in a gorgeous, lush location. Check it out!
Rufus Sewell as the guy? There’s something about him that would give Mr. R. a run for his money.

LOL – no, that’s not quite how I pictured Lucy & Jeremy, though I don’t generally see characters as real people. They’re close enough to work for the film version, though – especially Clive Owen – mmm!
I love Rufus Sewell, but hmm… I have to give this some more thought. I don’t feel like I know your hero that well yet.
For your heroine – maybe Christina Cole? She played Blanche Ingram in the recent Jane Eyre and has that whole unatainable society beauty thing going on – though with a nice vulnerability, I think.

I’m really bad at picturing faces, if you haven’t figured out from my complete lack of description in that regard. My impression of Lucy was kind of a blotch of red. Jeremy is tall, and wearing blue.
I’m one of those people who when I watch movies, says “who is that?” And everyone around me says, “The main character. They guy you’ve been watching for an hour.”
Then I realized that he changed outfits and I can’t recognize him anymore.

Oooh, Lindsey – Christina Cole is a great one.
I actually came up with a great idea for the hero today – and the hero’s brother. A bit on the pretty side, but that never hurts. I’ll post them soon.
CM – I know what you mean. I don’t really see the characters with defined features as I read or write. They’re sort of blurs with a general shape to them.
I guess what drew me to these two pictures and two celebrities was less that their features matched my imagination, but just the aura they exude. Clive Owen has that dark intensity I wanted for Jeremy (and the heavy brow, and the deep voice … yum), and Reese Witherspoon has Lucy’s impish sass, although she’s really too pretty and too fair-complected.
Speaking of Clive Owen – has anyone else noticed that in every movie (well, all of his movies that I’ve seen, which doesn’t include the last few) he says some variation of the line, “If you touch her, I will kill you.” It’s like Keanu Reeves and “Whoa.”

Okay, first of all you posted a picture of the right guy. Clive Owen is hot! When I was writing AHR I saw a picture of the most gorgeous colored eyes I’d ever seen and used it for my heroine.
Now if we’re talking handsome but not pretty with dark hair I actually can’t think of anyone better than Clive Owen or maybe George Clooney.
For a blonde heroine who has an ethereal doll-like beauty, I’m going to say Christina Aguerilla (I know I spelled it wrong)if we’re talking just about looks.

Oh, yum! I love that picture of Clive–I think he makes a great Jeremy. I have to admit I don’t think Reese looks like Lucy, but I can see their personalities being similar. For a blonde beauty…hmmm…model Gemma Ward? Or Grace Kelly?

I’ve never used famous people as the models/muses for my characters, largely ’cause I can’t think of any. I’m not quite as bad as CM, in that I can recognize an actor throughout the whole movie, but I totally can’t from one movie to the next.
After watching The Big Lebowski one night, my other half and I channelsurfed until we came across King Kong.
“Hey!” I said. “That guy looks just like The Dude!”
He looked at me and said, “That’s because it’s the same actor, Erica.”
I was like, “Oh. That explains it.”
