So a couple of posts below, I introduced you to Lucy, the heroine of my WIP, Goddess of the Hunt, and gave you some reasons why you will love her. Time to introduce the man Lucy loves.

But first, let me tell you bit about how Lucy loves. Lucy has no talent for painting or music, and she has no talent for hoping. She doesn’t hope. She knows; she believes; she expects – and she wants. Here is Lucy on wanting:

Lucy raised the bow to her shoulder and drew back the string. “If you want to hit the target, it’s as simple as that – wanting it. Some people will go on and on about proper technique. They will analyze the line of your arm, the way you hold the bow, the length of time you take to release. Absolute rot, all of it. I simply look at the center of the target, and I want it. I focus and I wait and I want it. I wait until the rest of the world falls away, and all that’s left are my arrow and the target and the wanting.” Her gaze narrowed, and her speech slowed. “And when I want them to collide so desperately that I can feel the arrow want it, too … then, I release.” She let go the string and watched the arrow zing home.

What Lucy wants, Lucy gets. And she wants Sir Tobias Aldridge, her brother’s handsome and charming friend. The day Lucy met Toby, three things happened. 1) He nearly shot her head off. 2) He crowned the same head with laurels and made her his Goddess of the Hunt. 3) Lucy decided to marry him. One day. Assuming she survived to see her twelfth birthday first.

Eight years later, Lucy’s head and crown are still intact, and she’s ready to become Toby’s Goddess of Love. She knows they are meant to be together. Nevermind that Toby hasn’t quite figured that out. He’s so clueless, in fact, that he’s on the verge of proposing marriage to the elegant and beautiful Miss Sophia Hathaway instead. But what – and whom – Lucy wants, Lucy gets. She has a plan. And when she takes aim at Toby, he’ll never know what hit him.

OK, that was just more about Lucy. I still didn’t really tell you about her hero, did I? Oh, well.
Next time.

I love Lucy! I would like to know more about this clueless hero, Sir Tobias Alridge. My first thought is, just how clueless is this man…?

Uh oh, I think I know too much. I’ll refrain from commenting about the clueless Sir Toby, but I have to say, you’ve made the case for Lucy extremely well. She makes my Eveline look a wee bit spineless. But she’s a spinster, not a goddess. Speaking of goddesses, I think you should remove the “Aspiring” from your tagline!

I’ll tell you what I want. I want to read this book.

And Monday you’re posting on Romance by the Book? I expect to be teased some more!

Yes, Maggie, I am guestblogging on Romance by the Blog on Monday, but it’s mostly about FanLit. However, I am planning to launch my website that day, and I may put up an excerpt there. I shall continue to tease in the meantime. Witness the following:

Beverley – Just how clueless is Toby? Very.

Kelly – What does Toby have that makes him deserving of Lucy? Not much, really.

Alice Audrey – Do you really want to hear more about Sir Toby the Clueless? Or would you rather hear about the hero?

And Lindsey – of course, with wanting like this, the getting will be good. Very, very good.
