Last night, Mr. Dare and I (and like a billion other screaming people) rocked out with the Foo-Fighters at The Forum, and it was amazing. So today, I’m all about the rockstars. Here’s a little Friday footage for your viewing pleasure. (I like to do these fangirl photo spreads in black-and-white, ’cause it all feels a bit classier and less adolescent that way. Yeah, that’s what I tell myself.)

Here we have the one-man foo-fighting force that is Dave Grohl. (I think he wore that shirt last night!)

And here, a new addition to my crush collection – the Florida punk power of Against Me! (They played the first set last night and were flippin’ awesome.)

My current pretty-boy altrock obsession would be Brandon Boyd of Incubus. (And he’s really not that much younger than me, I swear!)

But before all these, there was Bruce. I sigh for Bruce. He’s still the hottest of them all.

I’ve heard that you can’t sell a contemporary romance with a rockstar hero? Why the heck not? Are there any out there anyhow?
Who’s your rockstar crush, past or present?

Dean Robillard’s Dad in SEP’s Natural Born Charmer was a rocker. It was a subplot but he had a romance with Dean’s mom. Proving yet again that SEP can make anything work. But as for leads I can’t think of one.
My rockstar crush would have to be Bon Jovi! I love that man as an actor and a singer.

I am telling on my age, but my rock star crush was the group, The Grassroots.

    —long before your time. LOL!

Dedication (McLaughlin/Kraus, the same gals who bought you The Nanny Diaries) had a rock star hero, but he was really more of an anti-hero, come to think of it. The most recent concert I attended was the Rolling Stones, but I have to say that the term cadaver is more appropriate than crush. But they’ve still got it, no question.

I love the Foo Fighters. Sounds like you had a blast.

Sting is the only one who ever made me question my bachelorettehood. I loved the pilgrim soul in him.

Also, the only time I ever came close to fainting was during a Sting concert. Toward the end of the show, he took off his shirt showing off his lithe rippling torso and jumped in place non-stop for a 20 minute (I timed) instrumental jam session. Stamina like that just fires the imagination, ya know? 😉

That and the tantric sex, Seton. LOL

Agree about Sting but also David Bowie. Yum. Yum. Yum. Loved him and the movie Labyrinth cemented the deal further.

Doesn’t Janga have a hero who’s a country music superstar?? I remember Max doing something along those lines…

And I know that Tommy Lee is kind of not the nice guy but there is something about his badness that appeals to me.

Thannks for the plug, Ely. 🙂 I even have a line in the book, credited to a journalist, that describes Max as “the face that fueled the fantasies of a generation.” LOL!

The hero of Kathleen Gilles Seidel’s Till the Stars Fall, one of my all-time favorite romances is Quinn Hunter, one half of Dodd Hall, a folk rock phenomenon of the 70s. Seidel swiches between the past (the time of the groups’s fame) and the present (90s) when Quinn and Krissa French, who inspired one of Dodd Hall’s biggest huts “Cinamon Haired Girl” get their second chance at love. It is a terrific book, and Quinn is in my list of top ten romance heroes.

Ohhh, did anyone see Vampire Weekend perform on SNL last night? There were a bunch of cute guys in that band, particularly the drummer. *g*

Way too many for me to list really but I could give a few.

When Chad Kroeger (Nickelback) does that growl thing with his voice – OMG! Seen them a few times in concert and I’ll go any chance I get just for that.

Most of my hotties are country boys. Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan (sex on a stick) and if you’ve never witnessed Keith Urban play guitar in person, you’re missing an O inducing experience.

Back in the day it was Joe Elliott (Def Leppard) all the way. Before that Rick Springfield and Adam Ant. LOL! Yeah, showing my age there.

The only Danielle Steel I’ve ever read was Rock Star which had, obviously, a rock star hero. Very gritty. Nora wrote one where the father of the heroine is a rock star. Very Stephen/Liv Tyler kind of thing. And one of my favorites from her just because it was very different from most of her other stuff. It’s called Public Secrets and I highly recommend it.

The only rock star I could think of in a book was the Dad in NBC like Kelly said.

Mine would have to be John Cougar Mellencamp. His progression has always fascinated me… from rebel to activist to family man. Plus I love his music. And he definitely improved with age (although he’s not looking too healthy lately. LOL) I do love to watch all these rockers age. Paul McCartney has to be the best looking 60+ year old out there.

I’m also with Terri on Keith Urban. I’ve never seen him play live but he’s definitely got that something.

I forgot about the Nora Roberts book, Terri. That’s a good one.

I just finished Barbara Bretton’s new book, Just Desserts, and the heroine’s dad in that one is an old rocker that still makes his fans swoon. He’s not the hero, but the hero does sometimes play with the band.

And I agree that Keith Urban is something special. 🙂

Wow – where did my weekend go?

I have not read NBC, but now I will make a point to. Thanks, for the tip Kelly and irish.

Maria Z – I did have to go to wikipedia for that one! But any guy named Creed has automatic rockstar appeal. 🙂

Maggie – LOL at TRS cadavers. But yeah, they can still play! Keith Richards has his own intriguing brand of charm.

Santa – *high fives my fellow Bruce fan* Not with you so much on Rod Stewart and Bryan Adams. The raspy voices, they just make me cringe. All those video tapes of vocal nodes my voice teacher showed in high school…

Seton – it’s all about the stamina, isn’t it? Dave Grohl was working hard for his money last Tuesday. Mr. Dare and I were like, “how does he do it? He’s older than us, and we’re exhausted just watching him.” Oooh, and Sting. Yum. The Police play the Hollywood Bowl in May… tix are so expensive…tempted anyway…

Ely – I understand the bad boy appeal of Tommy Lee and his like. So why is it again these guys are not starring in books? Don’t we love bad boys?

Janga – Kudos to you for creating the music star hero! Your Max is to die for in the snips I’ve read. I can’t wait to read the whole thing!

Tiff – Love both NIN and Nick Cave…

TerriO – And you know I love Nickelback, too. I can dig that growly voice way more than the raspies. Can you believe I’ve never read a Danielle Steel novel? I probably should, because when I tell people I write romance, they always say, “Oh, like Danielle Steel?” And I have to say, “I don’t think so…”

Irish – JCM is my homeboy! I used to live in his “small town”. He is a really great guy – does lots of good for the local community.

Sounds like so much fun, and I loved the eye candy you posted. 😀 As for not selling books with rock start heroes, I’ve heard that, too. Same for actors. And that bothers me, because I’d love to read books with rock star or actor heroes. From what I’ve heard, it’s because editors think that readers can’t really believe that rock stars and actors can actually settle down and love only one woman, stay off drugs, and generally avoid the lifestyle that People is always reporting on. But I don’t think that’s true. I think that if the character is developed well enough, it could really work.

Wings! How could I have forgotten McCartney & Winds! Adding Billy Joel and waving madly for The Police.
