So one of the themes in Goddess of the Hunt is, heaven preserve us from ending up with our first “love.” I mean, I love a good “destined to be together” tale as much as the next girl, but in most cases, I think we’re pretty lucky we don’t pick our spouses at the age of ten. In the case of GOTH, Lucy’s had a crush on Sir Toby for 8 years – ever since she was eleven – and it takes a few near calamities and several tasty kisses before she can stop clinging to that dream and realize Toby’s the wrong man for her entirely.

I’ve been thinking – if I could have married my dream man at age ten or eleven, who would I be with today? Probably one of these guys:

So who did it for you, back when you barely knew what “it” was? (And yes, this question will date you.) David Cassidy? Elvis? A New Kid on the Block?

Bobby Darin. I had all his 45s.When I got to high school, my first “serious” boyfriend actually looked like him. I had delusions then of being Sandra Dee. This is all very, very sad.

But I guess they were better than Frankie and Annette.

My big crush was Sean Cassidy (David didn’t do a thing for me). Oh, and Peter from the Brady Bunch. The only crush from then that has stuck with me now is Lou Diamond Phillips — he turns up now and again on Numbers and I *still* have the hots for him. So. . . don’t tell Mr. Scott!

I had so many. Sean Cassidy (I had a poster over my bed at one point), Michael Jackson (before he bleached himself and started looking really scary), Moondoggie (Gidget)James Darren whom I still think is very goodlooking and Clint Eastwood (I think I watched every single spaghetti western he was ever in).

I grew up in a tiny, isolated town in Alaska with no TV and no access to pop culture. So my dream boy at 10 or 11 was Teddy Kent from Lucy Maude Montgomery’s Emily of New Moon series. I know he is just a character in a book, but to me he lived and breathed and stormed about being his brooding, artistic self, painting my portrait and holding my hand while we sat on a gravestone…

    Laurie from Little Women.
Clark Gable as Rhett Butler – I think I watched that movie (well, the good parts) every day after school in 6th grade.
Leo DiCaprio. In eigth grade, I was Vice-President of my highschool’s Leonardo DiCaprio Fan Club.
    Prince William.
I can never remember his name, but the gorgeous guy in Breakfast at Tiffanys.
And some of those Disney princes are pretty hot, too! Prince Phillip has always had my heart!
